Walk along the bridge is a favorite attraction for many local inhabitants as well as for many tourists, visitors of the city. The bridge is a part of highway 1 stretched along the Pacific coast and connecting all sea-side towns and bays. Locally it connects San Francisco and the Peninsula to the northern part of San Francisco Bay Area: Marin county. Closest attractions there are Sausalito and Muir Woods. This is a perfect illustration of power of steel. It is difficult to imagine by an unprepared mind that two of these cable less than a meter in diameter but consisting of about 27,000 wires hold the weight more than 800,000 tons. It is about the same as a cube of water 100 meters in length, width and height. |

This is an east-directed panorama of the San Francisco Bay with Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, and San Francisco cityscape. Pacific Ocean is on another side of the walk.
