(San Francisco, CA, January 13, 2008) - The Fujitsu Jazz Festival, sponsored by Fujitsu, today announced the special one-night-only performance, “Tango Meets Jazz – Tango, Passion & Swing” featuring the Grammy-Award winning pianist and composer Pablo Ziegler with his Quartet in an unique pairing with special guest, Grammy-nominated vibraphonist Stefon Harris.  The evening will also include the tango dancing pair of Mariella Franganillo and Junior Cervila, direct from Broadway. Tango is a music and dance full of raw emotion, passion, sensuality and flirtatiousness and is the music of Buenos Aires and Argentina. This special, intimate performance will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 8:00p.m. at Herbst Theatre, 401 Van Ness Avenue, in San Francisco. The concert is produced by Pat Philips and Ettore Stratta.

Grammy-award winning pianist and composer Pablo Ziegler has been an integral part of the international revival of tango music and dance.  As a member of Astor Piazzolla's famous Tango Quintet, Ziegler infuses his music with a deep knowledge of tango combined with jazz improvisations, bringing a new voice to the tango lexicon while carrying on the legacy of his mentor Piazzolla.  The Quartet includes the sound of one of the chief instruments of the tango, the bandoneon, performed by the brilliant Hector Del Curto along with Pedro Giraudo on bass and Claudio Ragazzi on guitar.

Grammy-nominated vibraphonist Stefon Harris is one of the most important young artists in jazz. His passionate artistry, energetic stage presence, and astonishing virtuosity have propelled him into the forefront of the current jazz scene. Widely recognized and lauded by both his peers and jazz critics alike, Harris is committed to both exploring the rich potential of jazz composition and blazing new trails on the vibraphone.

The program will begin with internationally renowned Tango dancers, Mariella Franganillo and Junior Cervilla, who performed on Broadway in “Forever Tango” and “Tango Argentino” with Julio Iglesias.  They will return in the second half as well.
