Robert Hauk is one of the most prominent and highly regarded Tango teachers, dancers, and DJs in North America. For many years he teaches and promotes Milonguero style of Tango which is most close to the way Tango is danced in Buenos Aires nowadays and in the past. For the first time Robert is invited to San Francisco Bay Area to teach us a series of 6 workshops covering most important topics of the Milonguero style.
Here is Robert & Cristina dancing at 2007 Chicago Mini Tango Festival

Igor Polk: "What is so good about Robert? He is dancing like an Argentinean, but he is not an Argentinean. He understands us and knows what language to speak to us like no other Argentinean would never dreamed of ! Robert knows how most of the best dancers in whole America dance in close embrace. Learning from him we are becaming a part of local community of the best dancers. I've seen many who might have great ideas or not, beautiful dancing style or not, but no one of them could give a clear, precise teaching on how to become among the most popular tango dancers in America and Europe - at our great local tango festivals. How to enter this circle. And Robert does !!!"

Saturday, May 24
2:00 - 3:30 p.m.  Workshop 1.  Tango is Walking
This class will explore the fundamentals of posture, walking and embrace.
Everything in tango is walking and we return again and again to work on
our walking.  We will develop a language of body mechanics that we will
use in all of the classes.

This class is an all levels class, the focus is on improving our walking
and it is where Robert develops ideas that will be important to all the
rest
of the series.
4:00 - 5:30 p.m.   Workshop 2.  Check Step Turns
The check step turns are fundamental building blocks for dancing in
crowded spaces.  They open options for turns at any time and they
are the entry to many more complex figures.

This class is also good for all levels.  The movements might be familiar
to dancers with more experience but they will be presented in a novel
way that opens many possibilities for improvisation.

5:30 – 6:30 p.m Practica

about walking.  We will develop back ochos and some very compact
walking turns.

5:00 - 6:30 p.m.     Workshop 4Developing Combinations
This class will put together material from the previous three classes and
develop more complex possibilities.  The focus will be on using the
transitions form and to crossed feet.  These will be used as building
blocks to create more complex figures.

Robert Hauk is a nationally renowned tango teacher and DJ,
who has been dancing and teaching tango for nearly a decade. His specialty is “apilado” or “milonguero” style, in which he has achieved an extraordinary level of skill – sufficient even to win the praise of Buenos Aires toughest judges – milongueros themselves. His ability to communicate the music and the emotion has made him a highly sought after dance partner at milongas across the United States.

Robert has been dancing and teaching the Milonguero Style for eight years since he met his main teacher Susana Miller. He has spent significant time in Buenos Aires dancing among the older dancers of this style, learning their way of dancing tango. He has also spent years learning about the music and is a highly regarded DJ for tango dances. He has been a teacher and a DJ at many festivals around the country.

Robert's popularity as an instructor at tango festivals is a result of his practical insight and straight-forward teaching that makes milonguero style tango readily accessible students. His skillful techniques quickly empower students with the “feel” of connected social dancing. As a result, his teaching has been influential and has engendered tango community growth in Portland and other cities across the United States.
